I was sick last week and lethargic so didn’t ride for a week. Surprisingly it was a real struggle to get on the bike again on Monday and it wasn’t particularly enjoyable but I did it.
Last night, while weighing up the risks and benefits of cycling to work in the forecast “heavy rain” today I came across a blog on the Sustrans website about Anna Hughes, a woman who decided to go car free for a year in 2012.
After reading about how she managed it through good weather and bad while moving flats even, I was left embarrassed into reconsidering my position. Usually I get ticked off by our youngest waking me at 5 a.m. but this morning (after looking at my Twitter timeline and rechecking the weather forecast) I sprung into action and looked out of the window for rain. Dry.
It was time to start before I lost my refreshed attitude. I arrived at work, slightly damp due to a couple of light showers and sweaty due to the humidity, glad that I made the effort.
Thanks Anna, while you put me to shame, you gave me back my mojo. And thanks Jim for “liking” that ride from purgatory on Endomondo. Now I’m figuring out ways to finish early today so that I can ride home via the scenic route enjoying the warmth and the sunshine…
