The week that was

This week I did 126km over 3 days & I’m shattered.  A 32km journey for a pint of milk on Tuesday was followed by 2 days in a row of biking to work, a first for me.

I woke on Wednesday perversely looking forward to using my wet weather gear. The heavy rain had awoken me at 3 a.m. and a wet ride felt inevitable.  But at 6.30 there was a window of clear sky. It was pretty mild too so hitched my tights up to 3/4 length and celebrated the last ride of the year in my favoured sandals. Not bad for the end of October eh?

Now that the days are drawing near, the lights are on from start to finish. I got a taste of the weather to come the next day- 9°C and clear skies with little breeze. Behind me the sun slowly rising, in front of me the moon lighting the way.

It was just bearable with a base layer and long sleeve top but next time the wind proof will be on. After a week of riding in mild but wet weather, I made the most of this clear morning taking a slightly longer route. I managed to “speed” past a long line of traffic during the rush hour who were stuck getting into Harlow which together with the recent bearable cycling weather is reward enough for my current knackered feeling.

Always worth the early wake up to ride into work with a sunrise like this and the freedom that driving doesnt afford

Yep, biking to work is definitely worth it…
