Today I was reminded of what is to come over the next 2-3 months of cycling in my neck of the woods. After riding in temps~25°C, dry roads, shorts and a single layer over the last 3 weeks, I was brought down to earth by:
- Bastard headwinds
- Crosswinds either blowing me towards the ditch or the middle of the lane/road
- potholes & puddles
- 3 layers on top
It was a glorious sunny day though and I came to realise during my penance of the 8km stretch into the 25mph headwind that perhaps my enjoyment of riding in fair weather has its foundation of pulling myself out on the bike in the wet, bitter & dark of winter.
That reminded me of this:
I resolved at the beginning of the year to post my mileage and savings every month as an incentive to ride, especially over the winter months. But in the rush to organise everything before our trip, I missed this out. Thanks to bikevcar for the inspiration and Sarah Louise at work for showing me how on a spreadsheet.
