25th April

Today is known as Anzac day where I come from. It is the anniversary of the landing of British, French, Indian and in particular Australian and New Zealand troops on the Gallipoli peninsula in the Dardenelle straits of Turkey in 1915. It is used to commemorate Australians and New Zealanders who have served in conflicts since. The campaign was a disaster from the start with the Allies misjudging the strength and commitment of the Ottomans who were defending their home. The only success of the campaign was the eventual withdrawl in December of the same year with virtually no casualties.

After a lie in and making bacon bagels for brekkie, I hit the back garden to clean master12s bike. He sneaked out for a second ride yesterday and now that he has the bug, thought that I’d add his to my morning cleaning task of doing both mine. He was complaining of not being able to shift all of his gears so I re-indexed them and de greased the chain. I was hoping that he would stick around to see how it’s done but in the time honoured tradition of pre-teens the world over, he had nothing to do somewhere else. I was happy enough by myself, cleaning and sharing Pink Floyd with the neighbours before they put their pop music on for us all to hear.

By 2pm, I had finished 3 bikes and had had enough of therapy. The other 2 can wait until tomorrow after the lawn is mowed, the herbs re-composted and the winter clematis cut back. I don’t know if this is routine for others but always think that it’s a good idea to go for a ride on a freshly cleaned bike to make sure that everything is just right. So that’s what I did. Besides, it was sunny, I had slightly readjusted my saddle and I needed lager for company at the BBQ later. I stopped at a spot to sit on a log and take a pic of the glorious Spring weather for my relatives and friends enduring autumn lock down back home.

Another blue Spring day

I discovered that this spot is another one of my special places that people are using to discover the countryside so my planned solitude did not eventuate. I was also wrong about BBQ day-Sunday, not today. I drank the beer anyway with a plan to use tomorrow’s ride for a return to the shop for more.
